SummaryEdit

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2011, and we're eating cheap, but not drinking cheap. For starters, this week we have a 2007 Saint-Hilaire Blanquette De Limoux to drink with our selections. And what a selection! Teriyaki Chicken Steamed Buns to start, followed by a discussion of Marie Callender's Scalloped Potatoes in a Creamy Cheese Sauce, the delightful Pillsbury Savorings Artichoke & Spinach bread bowls, a brief review of Kikkoman Shiro Miso Soup, and finally Gabila's Famous Original Coney Island Square Knish. As an added bonus, our friend Dave sent us a bag of Mackie's of Scotland haggis & cracked black pepper potato crisps.

That's right Haggis Potato Chips. It's not as scary as it sounds. No, really.

Remember, we eat it so you don't have to, and we hope you enjoy the first new episode of 2011.

Episode # Item Rating Scale Source Notes
17 Teriyaki Chicken Steamed Buns 4 Tiny Bubbles - Bun is a little bit stiff and chewy. Chicken's cheap and gristly, but not bad. Would be better steamed.
17 Marie Callender's Scalloped Potatoes and Ham in a Creamy Cheese Sauce 4.5 Tiny Bubbles - Microwaved easily. Texturally okay, but tasted only of potato and bland. Kids ate it and didn't complain.
17 Kikkoman Shiro Miso Soup 5 Tiny Bubbles - Adequate miso soup, but there wasn't much of it for the money.
17 Pillsbury Savorings Artichoke & Spinach Bite-size Bread Bowls 7 Tiny Bubbles - Cheesy and soft.
17 Gabila's Famous Original Coney Island Square Knish 7 Tiny Bubbles - Potato Knish. Very squishy. Toasting would firm up the outside. Good with mustard. Has all the flavor but is missing some of the texture.
17 Mackie's of Scotland Haggis & Cracked Black Pepper Potato Crisps 8 Tiny Bubbles - "They taste like meat coffee." Weird dark undertone to the flavor.
17 Saint-Hilaire Blanquette De Limoux 9 Tiny Bubbles - French sparkling wine. Delightful.
